Take Me Home!

Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden; Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name; through Christ our Lord. Amen

Living God, your Son made himself known in the breaking of bread: Open the eyes of our faith, that we may see him in all his redeeming work; who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

A Crafty Thank you! April 2007

The Friday morning Craft Club recently visited the Cancer Centre at the City Hospital in Belfast. Colleen Shaw the Fundraising Manager there was pleased to receive a cheque from the group for £500.

The Craft Club also provided some practical help to Ward 2 of the Cancer Care Unit by making 20 fleecy knee rugs, syringe driver holders and bed socks for the comfort of the patients. These were presented to Janice Palmer the ward sister.

In the picture St. Gall's parishioners Nancy Cooke, Maisie Winters, Rowena Badanjak and Hillary Blackburn are seen meeting with the team from the Cancer Centre.

A Fond Farewell  June 2006

The Evening Service on the 25th June 2006 saw a farewell service for both the Reverend Ken Lindsay and the Methodist congregation here at St. Gall's. After eight years here Ken and his family are moving to Ballinamallard, Co. Fermanagh. After over 35 years the Methodist congregation are preparing to make a move to their new worship centre on the Rathmore Road. The service included a presentation to Ken from the C of I congregation - the parting gift of a digital camera. In addition two beautiful banners were presented to St Gall's as a parting gift to mark the special relationship the two congregations have shared.

We Have A Winner! June 2006

The Summer Fete at St. Gall's Church on the Crawfordsburn Road was a tremendous success with the sun shining on the crowds of people who attended. Part of the excitement on the day was the Star Prize Raffle held as part of the fete celebrations. This year local business Laser had provided a £500 voucher for the lucky winner and Bangor woman Margaret Fisher was over the moon when her ticket was picked out of the hat on the day. She explained that she had been happy to support the fete and had been sold the winning ticket by her next door neighbor!

Local Laser store manager Paul Devine was on hand to welcome Margaret to the store and present her with her £500 voucher. The Reverend Michael Parker said: "What a fantastic prize! We as a parish would like to thank Laser for their support for the fete in sponsoring the Star Prize. Also, a big "thank you" to everyone who came along on the day and enjoyed the fete. We hope Margaret really has fun picking her prize!

Easter Breakfast 2006

What a fantastic start to the celebrations of Easter! Some churches are out at the break of dawn singing hymns on the beach but here in St. Gall's things are a little more leisurely - continental breakfast? Porridge? Toast and tea? A relaxing breakfast in good company followed by a beautiful service of Holy Communion. In the kitchen the Sudan Support group worked tirelessly to ensure that the porridge wasn't too hot or too cold but just right!

Holy Week 2006

The three local churches came together in Holy Week with our visiting preacher the Reverend Dr. Edmund Mawhinney, former President of the Methodist Church in Ireland. The worship for the week was shared between the different congregations with an opportunity for the different congregations to meet for coffee and conversation after each service. The clergy of the churches are pictured following the Good Friday service which concluded with Tenebrae, a dramatic reading of the Passion narrative in which a sequence of candles are extinguished.

Marie Curie Field of Hope   March 2005

The Mayor of Bangor visited St Gall's in March 2005 to dedicate the Marie Curie Field of Hope that runs along the roadside beside the church.

The Marie Curie Field of Hope  is a reminder to all who drive by of the important work of this cancer charity.

The Rector, Rev Michael Parker, said: “Many families within the church and the wider community have experience of the kindness and professional care of Marie Curie staff – both in their own homes and in the centre at Knock. We as a parish are delighted that we are able to express our support for this work in a simple way with a Field of Hope. I hope that as people drive by they say a prayer for those who suffer through cancer and will be reminded of the work of this important charity.”
