The Prayer Page

The opportunity to meet with God in prayer is something that is there for each of us. We express it in the worship we share as a family of faith, Sunday by Sunday. We express it in the quietness of our own personal space and time.

I hope that you find the following thoughts on prayer encouraging. Ponder a while, reflect for a while. But don't forget that the truth about prayer is that there is no substitute for being still before God and in the quietness of your own heart reaching out to him. Speaking and listening. It's as simple as that.

"The path of righteousness is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter till full day" Proverbs 4 verse 18

"You must listen to the silence within and then the great understanding will come, you will understand yourself in the world, and your heart will yearn to the end of the universe, to the bounds of eternity, for that which is beautiful."

"A Diary of the Warsaw Ghetto" by Abraham Lewin (1988 Blackwell)

"Nevertheless I am always with you: for you hold me by my right hand." Psalm 73 verse 23

"The moment you wake up each morning, all your hopes and wishes for the day rush at you like wild animals. And the first job each morning consists in shoving it all back, listening to that other voice, taking that other point of view, letting that other, larger, stronger, quieter life come flooding in."
